Mindful Movement in Guatemala is a weeklong retreat held at Villa Sumaya on the shores of Lake Atitlán, one of Guatemala’s most striking natural settings. Surrounded by volcanic peaks and rooted in the cultural richness of the Guatemalan highlands, the retreat offers space to slow down, reconnect, and immerse yourself in movement, nature, and reflection. Led by Madison Fruitman, the experience includes daily yoga and mindful movement practices, strength based Pilates, guided meditation, Yoga Nidra, nourishing vegetarian meals, and a Mayan Fire Ceremony led by a local guide. With lakeview shalas, a peaceful sanctuary setting, and time for spa treatments, hikes, boat rides, or quiet rest, this retreat is designed for travelers seeking both inner reset and meaningful travel.

Villa Sumaya
Lake Atitlán
Villa Sumaya is a retreat and wellness center located in Santa Cruz la Laguna, Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. We are dedicated to rejuvenating holistic practices and healing modalities as well as preserving Mayan traditions and facilitating outdoor adventure in the heart of the Altiplano. In Sanskrit, Sumaya means a long-awaited dream come true, while in Arabic it translates as a little piece of paradise. Both of these definitions mirror our hearts’ intentions and inspire our service. Our logo is a Mayan glyph found in Chiapas, Mexico representing the fountain of life or the budding growth of a flower, and this too moves us ever forward.
